About Our Adult Day Care Program
Ganister Station provides community participation adult day care services to adults, 18 and older, that have been diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Generally, a referral is made by a county support coordinator or by contacting the program specialist at the adult day care program the individual wishes to attend. The program specialist will be able to provide information regarding the program, and what steps need to be taken to begin attendance. Referral processes may vary by county, please check with your supports coordinator for more detail on your county’s programming referral process, as well as your county’s requirements for starting programming.
Prior to starting programming, all individuals will need to complete the following steps:
A tour will be given of the facility the individual is interested in. This will give the individual an opportunity to meet the staff and participants in a low stress environment. It also gives an opportunity to ask questions about supports and services offered at Ganister Station.
A copy of the Individual Support Plan (ISP) of the person interested in attending the adult day care program must be provided for review prior to admission. This gives us the opportunity to review the person’s needs to be sure we can properly support them in the day program.
We ask that the individual complete three visits to the facility. The first two visits will be with supervision, either from a family member or support staff (supports coordinator, residential/home and community staff, behavior specialist etc.) that knows the individual well. The third visit will be a solo visit to the facility with someone available to call in case of emergencies. These visits can vary in length of time and serve to help us get to know the individual.
A team meeting is scheduled to discuss days of attendance, times, and staffing ratios, as well as other special considerations such as dietary restrictions, medications, etc.
A current physical, medical history, current list of medications, immunization records, as well as releases of information must be provided to the program prior to admission. This information can be found in the Ganister Station welcome packet, which will be provided during the facility tour.

What We Cover
Ganister Station provides community integration for all participants who attend Ganister Station Adult Day Care Program. This allows participants to increase the person’s social and physical interaction when they are out in the community and engaging with everyone.
Skills taught will assist the person to perform an activity of daily living that would have to be performed for the person if the person did not have the skill. Each person will be introduced to resources available to them including recreational, adult education, cultural, service organizations, mental health agency services and senior citizen centers. Services that are provided will be on an individual or small group basis, thereby providing greater opportunities for interaction and the development of friendships with people they meet in the community.
Ganister Station offers transportation to individuals who are not currently being served by a residential provider.
Sample Daily Schedule
Arrival
Individuals arrive in the morning between 8:00-9:00A, have a cup of coffee or tea, participate in crafts, and socialize with staff or other peers. Once all of the individuals arrive for the day, the group has a morning devotional and recites the Pledge of Allegiance
Community Trip
Around 9:15, they will leave the building, going out into the community. Individuals have a few choices of what they would like to do for the day, one of those being to stay in rather than go out. Activities may include trips to local stores, trails, parks, zoos, and sporting events.
Lunch
The group will then return to Ganister around 11:30-12:00P for lunch (unless lunch is had out in the community).
Afternoon Activities
Their afternoons will consist of another possible community outing or the option to stay in and participate in crafts or other activities, including movies, cooking classes, dancing, decorating for various seasons, etc. Some individuals will even choose to help with chores, including laundry, trash, dishes, etc.
Dismissal
The day at Ganister wraps up around 3:30-4:00P.
